The Ru-View || Episode 1 & 2 RuPaul's Drag race

Hello people of the internet!  Welcome to the first instalment of The Ru-View! Where I review the latest episode (or in this case episodes) of RuPaul's Drag Race! I'll be doing this over the next couple weeks during season 9! As you can probably tell from this post, I'm a little obsessed with RuPaul's Drag Race. I can't even explain how excited I've been for season 9. Waking up to watch each episode on Saturday has been like getting up on Christmas morning! Obviously, this post will contain spoilers! Anyways, here's what I thought of episode one and two!

Episode One

Season openers tend to be the most exciting episodes. We have the usual introduction to all of the queens at the start. I definitely have some favorites already. Like, Nina Bo'nina Brown, Shee Coulee, Farrah Moan, Sasha Velour, and Peppermint! Lady Gaga made her entrance by psyching out this season's group into thinking she was a Lady Gaga impersonator. That's where this episode seemed to drop off for me. It slowly became the Lady Gaga show.

Rumours are, they only had Gaga for a day. That's why we don't see RuPaul in drag this episode (not enough time to get her in it!) and there isn't a photo challenge. The photo challenge is one of the things I look forward to the most. So, that was disappointing.

There was another surprise, for the first time in herstory, no one was going home this episode. I'm not going to lie, there are a few people that I already wanted to go home. So this was kind of annoying.

The challenge was the Miss Creative Uniqueness Nerve and Talent Pageant (Home Town Frocks {An outfit that represents your hometown}& Lady Gaga Extravaganza). I have no idea why they would do a pageant type challenge and only expect two outfits. It seems like a waste of a challenge for me. Some of my favorite looks were: Shee Coulee's (Hometown), Sasha Velour's (Lady Gaga), and Nina Bo'nina Brown's (LadyGaga). Least favorites were: Charlie Hides (hometown), Jaymes Mansfield (hometown), and Alexis Michelle (hometown).

I would have really appreciated some more screen time for the girls during the runway. Don't get me wrong, I love Lady Gaga as much as the next person. But, this was the first episode. I want to get to know this season's queens. I already know Lady Gaga. I'm definitely looking forward to see more episodes without her. My least favourite queen has to be Jaymes Mansfield. I feel like she was really overwhelmed. If someone was going to go home first it should be her.

At the end, the top three were Eureka, Sasha Velour, and Nina Bo'Nina Brown. Nina took won the first challenge (totally deserved!) and right before the episode ends we're told that a 14th queen will be added in the next episode.

Overall, this wasn't my favorite season opener. It was kind of disappointing. That kind of broke my heart.

Episode Two

This episode starts with finding out that Cynthia Lee Fontaine was returning this season. Was anyone really surprised? That's been rumoured since last summer. With that being said, I'm happy Cynthia returned to the show. I must admit she wasn't my favorite when season 8 was airing but during my rewatches of the show she grew on me. After we get over that *shock*, we finally get to see what the show is about... DRAG QUEENS! Thank you.

For some reason, they decided to skip out on a mini challenge again. But we get back to regularly scheduled programming by throwing the girls into a group challenge (Ala Glamazonian airways and Bitch Perfect). This week's maxi challenge was Introduced by RuPaul and for some reason Lisa Kudrow. We'd be seeing the girls compete against each other in a Cheer competition. My main question was, where was this challenge when Kayta was around? Seriously. There are three parts to this maxi challenge: tumbling, group choreography, and stunts.

After the girls split off into their groups we finally get to have a proper introduction.  This is something that was seriously missing in the first episode.  In one group we have Jaymes failing to make me even notice here during rehearsals. She's constantly missing her cues. And completely unable to speak up for herself when Alexis Michelle wants her character (floozy) instead of Snoozy. Eventually, they decided to switch because(let's be honest) Jaymes might as well be asleep during this challenge.

Then we have the complete opposite with Kimora Blac. While the other girls are stoning their gowns and getting to know each other, Kimora is whining away. She's not one of my favorite girls. And, if I'm honest I don't see her making it past episode 5. Her drag isn't as polished as she thinks it is and her attitude sucks. She seems like she's gunning for the season 9 villain edit but I don't think she's capable of it.

With no surprise at all, Jaymes and Kimora fail to impress during the maxi challenge (hey bottom two edits!). Kimora also tanks the runway look; White Party Realness. Valentina absolutely stole the runway and the main challenge and was the well-deserved winner this week. My favorite looks were: Shee Coulee, Trinity Taylor (I don't even like her but she blew me away!), and Valentina. And my bottom three (for the runway look) were: Kimora, Charlie, and Alexis Michelle (Only because I couldn't even remember it until I rewatched the episode).

Even though the girls worked in teams this week they're judged individually (*shocker*). Kimora and Jaymes faced off to Love Shack by The B-52's. I'm not evening lying, I thought Jaymes was somehow going to stay. My boyfriend was even surprised when she went home and she far from our favorite.

I can't wait to see what happens next week. It'll be interesting to see if Cynthia stays. Usually when people come back they never stay for more than two episodes (Trixie & Naysha)!

    I am a huge fan of Gaga so while I was disappointed by the episode as a whole, having here there made it worth watching for me hahaha
