Behind The Blog: Photography
Tuesday, April 12, 2016Hello people of the internet! Long time no speak! How have you been? Personally, I've been so busy. Today, I want to start a new series on here. It's going to be called Behind The Blog. Basically, it's going to be a series about how I run my blog. Everything from photography to social media, to coming up with post ideas! As you can probably tell this particular installment is my favorite subject; photography!
I am by no means a professional photographer. That being said, taking my blog and Instagram photos is my favorite part of being a blogger. It's even one of my main motivations behind starting a blog in the first place. Below you will see the three main things I use for my photos. Photoshop CC, a Nikon Coolpix L820, and a 32GB SD card.
Photoshop CC: I've been using some sort of Photoshop since I was 12. I have some pretty embarrassing pictures I did for myspace back in the day. The best advice I could give anyone just starting out with photoshop is: play around! Go through and try out everything there is. Look up tutorials and just have fun! That being said, I will be doing another installment of Behind The Blog about how I edit my photos!
Nikon Coolpix L820: Now, I know most blogger's use DSLRs and I did when I first started my blog too. But, I was given this camera for Christmas in 2014. It's absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes to take AMAZING pictures but also has a budget. It's a bridge camera. Which means it's kind of a combination of an SLR and a DSLR. AKA, bridging the gap between the two.
32 BG SD Card: This allows me to be able to shoot in the highest quality possible without running out of space.
Other tips: I also like to use white card stock for my flat lays. I place them on my window sill. It gives my pictures a consistent, clean look. I never use lights either. That's mainly because I'm lucky enough to have a huge window. It gives me all the natural light I need.
Let me know if you find these kind of posts helpful. I really want to do more of them!

When I start up my blog, I was planning on using my Canon 1000D camera, which I was lucky enough to get as a gift a few years ago! I really need to get to grips with photoshop - was it expensive to buy the software? I think this is a great idea for a series btw! Would you consider doing a post on blog promotion? I.e. whether paid ads on other blogs are worth it and tips for using social media to promote? Thanks ❤️❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteI use Adobe lightroom. It's budget friendly and more than enough for editing photos if you're not looking to add text or do any big tweaks to your shots. It's a great piece of software!
ReplyDelete(And on a side note, you can delete this if you like... An SLR is a Single Reflex Camera (with film) and a DSLR is a Digital Single Reflex Camera (no film)... so I think you meant that a bridge camera is the in between of an easy-to-use cheap point-and-shoot, and a more costly DSLR with detachable lenses. They offer similar advanced functions as a DSLR, but aren't as bulky and complicated to use, but their quality isn't as good because the sensor is smaller, much like a point-and-shoot)
These are great! I'm so lazy when it comes to my photos most of the time. Funny, because I love looking at what other bloggers do with their photography! I'm so excited for this series!

I use a Nikon DSLR I bought from Dubai. Looking forward to reading your post on editing photos.
