Behind The Blog Photo Editing

Hello people of the internet! One of the questions I get asked the most is how I edit my pictures. So, I decided to expand on my Behind The Blog series to show you all how. There are three main things that I do to edit my pictures in photoshop. That includes clearing up the background, brightening the photo, and "filtering" it. Below I'll explain in simple steps how I achieve that!

This is the picture I'm starting off with. As you can see it's quite dull and grey. There is also a line at the bottom from the different sheets of paper I used as a background. That's the first thing I want to get rid of.

As you can see in the first picture, I selected the healing tool to use. When you use the healing tool you need to alt select (press down the alt button and left click your mouse at the same time.)an area. This area is basically what you're using to cover the line. So, when you actually alt select you will want to find an area that is similar to the rest of your background. That way it will look seamless. All you have to do then is click along the line and watch it disappear.

Next step for me is usually brightening! The only thing I do for this is open up the brightness/contrast window and bring up the brightness until I have a white background. Then I'll up the contrast to my liking. This step is all about personal preference.

I call this step "filtering". This is my favorite part of editing my pictures because I think it really just finishes them off perfectly. I just open the exposure window. Usually, I don't need to bring the exposure up too much because I've already brightened it. As you can see I only brought up the exposure by 0.05. The best part is the Offset. I absolutely love what it does to photos. I feel like it gives more depth and a more stylized look. I would just be careful because it can give your pictures a bit of a grey look if you add too much.

  3. I've been using photoshop for years, so I was pretty sure this post cannot surprise me, but it did. Turns out I've never used the offset feature, oops! I'll go test it out right now! :)

  5. Meggan, thank you for this tutorial. It is very useful for me. I often do this sort of thing at work. At work, I use it https://macphun.com/intensify. With this it can be done very quickly. Now I know how to do it at home.
