Bedroom Tour Part Two || How I Styled My Up-Cycled Desk

Hello people of the internet! It's been a while since I did the first part of my bedroom tour. So, I thought it might finally be time to drop another post. Aside from splitting my room apart for each of these blog posts, I definitely feel like my room is already in three different parts in my head. For this post, I wanted to focus on my desk! I bought my desk from someone on Facebook in November/December 2017. When I bought it I had plans to immediately up-cycle it. But, I've only gotten as far as painting it white. It still needs more work. That being said, for this post, you'll only be seeing the top of it!

Overview

My desk is mainly used for makeup storage. Or, to be totally honest, a place that I just throw everything I don't have an immediate home for. When I am trying to get work done properly though It looks like this. I have my laptop and my drawing tablet set up. Usually with a big mug of black coffee next to it. And even though I don't have one in the photo there is always a notebook with me too.

Unfortunately, this desk is kind of lacking in storage. It only has one drawer on the side and kind of a big open bit next to the drawer (kind of hard to explain. It's like the area where a drawer should be just sans drawer). I bought some small storage bins from Euro Giant to pop in the drawer to seperate my washi tape and some of my stickers and pens. The open area used to be full to the brim of any and all crap I couldn't find a place for. Now I just have my big folder of adulting stuff.

Like, I said before, my desk tends to house a lot of stuff without a home. So, I decided to change that with some acrylic makeup storage from Primark and Amazon. The palette holder was from my little brother for Christmas. To which I immediately bought the two-teir organizer from Amazon. I also bought a lipstick holder that is on a bookshelf in my room. At the top of the one pictured here, I keep a lot of my random brushes, lipliners, my main skin care and some lipsticks. In the drawers, I've been keeping my blushes, mascaras, lashes, and just anything that needs to be hidden away. That palette holder is one of the best things ever! Although I probably have too many in there I've managed to squeeze in 10 in total! Which is saving a lot of room and I can still see them!

Since everything is so organized because of the storage containers, I can keep my workspace right up front. The laptop I'm currently using is a Lenovo V110. I'm so, so, so lucky that my parents were kind enough to get it for me for Christmas. It's a lot faster than my old one which makes a big difference when using things like photoshop. I tend to get quite a few questions about how I draw on my pictures. And the answer to that is my drawing tablet. I'm using a Wacom Bamboo tablet. It's great but a little out of date. Definitely gets the job done though!

On my wall above my desk, I have a few bits hanging up. Like the little Sephora bag, my sister-in-law brought some goodies back for me in. Plus some cute photos - one of Dan with my old cat Chub and a photobooth pictures from Valentine's Day 2018. And what desk isn't complete without some beautiful Repeal the 8th art? I love how clear this space is at the moment. But, I'm really thinking of making it a little gallery wall!

That's basically it! Since I haven't technically finished painting my desk I was wondering if you would all be interested in seeing a post about it? Now that it's getting warmer and a bit drier out I'll actually be able to drag the damn thing outside to finish it! I would love to know what you all think of how I used my space. Since I don't have that much storage in my room things like acrylic/stackable storage are key to making a smaller area work. I think I've done the best I can!

  1. I would love to see the painting process! It also sounds like you've got some storage solutions for a tricky situation (ie, not much storage in the first place lol!). I think a gallery wall would look so cute and be so inspiring!

  2. This is so pretty! I want to get into upcycling more as it's more eco-friendly than just throwing stuff away and it's cheaper! You've done a great job!
